Halloween is a day that I've always despised. Since I was a little girl I hated being scared and, to be honest, still can't event watch previews for a scary movie. I can never find the costume I want and then I'm guaranteed to be scrambling at the last minute to attempt to throw together something that isn't completely lame. Last year, a friend and I gave up on the whole thing, reconnected with my bundt pan, and called it a day.
I don't want to be the worst, most boring mom in the history of holidays though, so now that junior has graced us with his presence, it's inevitable that Halloween will experience a revival. I might as well suck it up and join in on the "fun."
After visiting a few party stores, I decided on the spot that homemade costumes will be the way this family rolls from here on out. After racking my brain for a costume I could make for an eight-month-old with little to no supplies, I settled on a mummy.
White muslin...check! White sweat pants and onesie...check! His outfit may have looked a little haphazard at points, but the total cost for this year's costume was zero dollars and zero cents... Sarah=1, Halloween=0.

Cutie! I think the nicely made homemade costumes are much cuter than the store bought stuff. My mom made Daniel an adorable little mouse costume.
Nicely done! He looks adorable. :)
Well done! "this family rolls from here on out." and he's wrapped in rolls of clothe, ha! But seriously, nice work. I never had store bought costumes growing up. I remember one Halloween, I was dressed as the Grim Reaper and my mom painted my face and my dead rigged up two red LED's that we tapped next to my eyes and they flashed on and off. It was pretty sweet and totally home made.
This is the cutest mummy I've ever seen! :-) Happy Halloween!
So you went as a mummy and his Mummy??? Super cute!
What an adorable mummy!
Boo-hoo! I wish I could have been there in person! What a cutie bug!
I couldn't agree more with your sentiments about Halloween. Great creativity...as always :)
Welcome to the band wagon! I totally love Sawyer's costume.
Mummy Dearest, anyone?
I think dressing up a kid beats lame Halloween parties anytime! Love the costume. And I'm sure it held up better than when my mom and dad wrapped us up in toilet paper.
Wow...he is an adorable mummy!!
I follow your blog for a few months. You have great recipes, cute quilts and a lovely family...
(Sorry, my english is so bad....)

hear hear! Halloween was fun as a kid but not so much as an adult. I'm looking forward to homemade costumes too. SO far, we've been using hand me downs...

That is totally adorable and so clever on your part!!! I LOVE IT! Definitely score one for you!
Well done! Love the outfit :-)
Best costume I've seen in forever!
