International Quilt Festival | Chicago

Over the weekend my good friend Caroline and her sweet little girl Beatrice and I spent a few lovely hours at the 2009 International Quilt Festival just outside the city. Whoa, baby. These people were not messing around.

A whole convention room packed full of die-hard quilters is truly a site to behold. I mean really... don't underestimate these ladies. They are serious about their craft and giddy with delight when it comes to all things fabric.

I'd heard of "art quilts" before, but I never imagined how much these would take my breath away. I was stunned beyond belief with some of them. Here are some of my faves...

I was planning on going, but got overwhelmed with school and realized I really can't afford to lose several hours. Wow, what have I missed. Amazing. I will be definitely for the look out next year.

I took a shot of the house one, too...and managed to miss some of your other faves. Maybe it's a two-day venture next year?

Love that Kathy York one -- her work is amazing!

WOW! Amazing. And yet...I'm not going to lie. If one of yours was hanging there I would've taken a picture of THAT. :)

I just watched a documentary about art quilts and I had the same reaction. Really neat when people think outside the box.

Ooh, sweet! And I'm so glad someone else mentioned the Klimt one because I was like "AAAHHH, I know that's a painting by a famous artist that I just studied but I can't remember who...is it Klimt?" Question answered.
