Pippi Långstrump

Even though I didn't grow up wrapped in Swedish tradition, I did love Pippi Longstocking and spent more than one Halloween dressed up as one of my favorite "orphans." She had common-sense, amazing strength which allowed her to literally pick up anything, and lived parent-less with her horse and monkey. What else could a little girl want, right?

I think my mom did a great job getting my braids around a straightened hanger. She sewed me up a mismatched ragamuffin outfit inspired by my 8-year old vision of what an ideal Swedish orphan should look like. I even had painted freckles to enhance my own. Kids crack me up on Halloween...

And Pippi Longstocking...fantastic!I haven't seen that movie in years, but it was always one of my favorites. (And now I'll probably have the theme song running throuhg my head all day!)

Happy Halloween!

I love it! You're too cute. How did your parents keep a straight face with you in the house?! :)

Like you, my costumes were inspired by my favorites books...I think I went as Laura Ingalls Wilder four times and a pilgrim twice. :)

In elementary school one year we were supposed to come on Halloween dressed as characters from a book and I was totally Pippi. I wonder if my mom has a picture of that laying around anywhere...

This is the Sarah I remember! Very cute! I remember Trick and Treating with you one year in Princess Anne Subdivision. I think you were an American Indian and I was a witch or was it a clown?

Happy Halloween!

I think we should start a movement to bring back the Halloweens of our youth. I'd take Pippi over a "sexy" nurse any day.

ahhh, so cute! I think I went to grade school with you - or you just look like a myriad of Pippi's around on Halloween. Love it!

I can't believe you posted this - I was just looking for my version of it today!!
This is such a great photo, both to show off your amazing cute-itude, and your great costume!
My best costume was as a werewolf, in my brother's old suit and a hairy mask, but alas - no photographic evidence exists. :)

Love it! You make/made an adorable Pippi!

We always laughed at Anne as a girl when she called her 'Pimpi' instead of Pippi! Not to her face, of course!

A couple of years back I dressed up as Pippi for the library storytimes...were you still there then?

So cute! Pippi is one of my all-time favorites--maybe I'll have all three of my girls be Pippi next year? And we can turn our house into Villa Villekula. We'll have to rent a horse and a monkey...

Pippi was my favorite book but I could never be her for Halloween because I had short hair. (I wasn't willing to wear a wig.) My best Halloween costume, repeated for several years, was a pirate complete with a stuffed bird that was tied onto my shoulder with a pair of old nylons.
