It is with much sadness that I've been forced to give up my New York State Driver's License. This morning I took Illinois' written test and was handed my new license after passing. It's not so much that I had to get a new license, or change my name, or get Illinois' new and horribly designed card...it's that I had to hand over my beloved NY ID, never to see it again. I knew it would be seized once I passed the test, but I was hoping that somehow they would forget and I could keep it as a memento of the past me. C'est la vie...at least now I am officially registered to vote in the land of Lincoln.

I feel your pain! Handing over that piece of pink plastic was so sad for me. Plain old Illinois licenses...bah!
Yeah, I've kept my New York one for 4+ years after I should have changed it to IL, but I just couldn't give it up! Even the older IL licenses are better than the new ones though...the one I have has red and blue and nastiness all over it. Yuck!
I didn't like giving up my old New Hampshire license, but I was really glad I didn't have to give up my "Live Free or Die" plates. Definitely hanging on to those...
I remember when I had to give mine up to (when I moved to PA)... What a sad day. I'm not sure if they took it or if they punched a hole in it... it might as well have been like punching a hole in heart... ok maybe I'm taking it to far but it hurt! I'm going to be updating my site soon... take a look when you get a chance.
